The effect of gel coat layer thickness and drying time on film properties [Technical Document]

Improving product quality, including the durability of the gel coat layer! Verifying the correlation between initial peeling occurrence and film thickness/drying time!

This document is a technical report that evaluates the durability of the gel coat layer, focusing on its thickness and drying time, as well as its adhesion resistance to FRP, in order to address issues such as delamination, wrinkles, and cracks that occur during the production of the gel coat layer. The evaluation revealed that a thickness of approximately 0.2mm provides high durability, with no clear correlation found with drying time. Additionally, internal verification using X-ray CT and tensile tests using DIC successfully identified the initial delamination of the gel coat layer. [Contents (Preparation and Evaluation Methods/Results)] ■ Gel Coat Preparation ■ Gel Coat Application ■ Gel Coat Drying ■ Production of FRP Flat Plates for Gel Coat Layer Evaluation ■ Measurement of Gel Coat Layer Thickness ■ Tensile Testing ■ Confirmation of Gel Coat Layer Delamination via X-ray CT ■ Correlation between Initial Delamination of the Gel Coat Layer and Gel Coat Layer Thickness and Drying Time *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

[Basic Knowledge] Tenryu Composite's FWP(R) 'FW Molding'

FWP has excellent mechanical strength, electrical properties, and chemical resistance, and is active in a wide range of fields such as industrial materials, electrical insulation materials, leisure goods, and pressure vessels!

【What is FWP(R) from Tenryu Composite?】 FWP stands for "Filament Winding Plastics," a type of FRP manufactured using the filament winding method. It is a general term for FWP pipes that possess various characteristics due to our unique technology and is one of our trademarks. FWP has excellent mechanical strength, electrical properties, and chemical resistance, making it useful in a wide range of fields including industrial materials, electrical insulation materials, leisure products, and pressure vessels. Its major feature is being "light and strong," and we look forward to your inquiries as a substitute for metal products. 【Filament Winding】 Several to dozens of glass (carbon) rovings are aligned and continuously wound at a specified angle around a rotating mandrel (core) while being impregnated with resin, and then demolded after curing. Mass production is possible, and high mechanical strength is achieved through continuous fibers. We own six filament winding machines, and the mandrels can accommodate various sizes from Φ5mm to Φ500mm. Moldable dimensions: outer diameter Φ600mm, total length 5000mm (may not be possible under certain conditions). *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Measurement results of surface roughness after hand finishing of FRP products with a three-dimensional shape.

Evaluation of the surface condition of 3D-shaped FRP molded products before and after hand finishing! Significant improvements in surface roughness and profile!

This document describes the results of a quantitative evaluation of the surface condition after hand finishing of 3D-shaped FRP molded products, using surface roughness as an indicator. FRP, which is lightweight and also has corrosion resistance, is expected to have an expanding range of applications as an alternative to metal materials. On the other hand, when the design is fundamentally based on replacing metal, it is often required to have equivalent aesthetics, making surface finishing of the exposed areas in hand lay-up molding an unavoidable necessity. This document clarifies that it is possible to achieve a smooth surface on the exposed areas of FRP molded products with 3D shapes through hand finishing. [Contents] ■ Evaluation Preparation and Evaluation Method - Preparation of evaluation samples - Measurement of surface roughness ■ Results - Preparation of evaluation samples - Measurement of surface roughness ■ Discussion - Comparison of surface roughness after hand finishing with the exposed areas of dimensional shapes - Reasons for the increased surface roughness measurement values of Cartridge A (X-R) - Impact of the inclination correction method on measurement results, etc. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

[Basic Knowledge] Tenryu Composite FWP(R) 'Regarding Winding Angle'

FWP has excellent mechanical strength, electrical properties, and chemical resistance, and is active in a wide range of fields such as industrial materials, electrical insulation materials, leisure products, and pressure vessels!

【What is FWP(R) from Tenryu Composite】 FWP stands for "Filament Winding Plastics," which is a type of FRP manufactured using the filament winding process. It is a general term for FWP pipes that possess various characteristics due to our unique technology and is one of our trademarks. Its significant features include being "light and strong," and we look forward to your inquiries for products that can replace metal products. 【About Winding Angles】 The mechanical strength of FWP products is determined by the combination of the material properties used and the winding angles for each layer. In filament winding, there are mainly hoop winding and helical winding, and designs are made to maximize performance based on their combination. ■ Hoop Winding - The winding angle is set upright (70° to 88°) relative to the longitudinal direction (axial direction) of the pipe. - Increases mechanical strength in the circumferential direction. ■ Helical Winding - The winding angle is laid down (5° to 69°) relative to the longitudinal direction (axial direction) of the pipe. - Increases mechanical strength in the axial direction. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.
